How to create apple ipod graphics

Jan 16, 2009 in Effects, Tutorials, Uncategorized

This photoshop video tutorial shows you how to create similar graphics to those used in the Apple ipod ads. First you have to desaturate the image you want to use and use the levels to sharpen the areas of colour. Create a new layer and fill it with you chosen background colour. Change the blend mode on this layer in the layers panel to hard light. You then need to duplicate the photograph layer and create a cut out of the person or object you want to have in the foreground and bring the cut out to the top of the layers panel. This tutorial then uses hue and saturation to colour the figure, however, you can also use a layer style with a colour overlay to create the same effect.

Dramatize your photos by adding lightning!

Jan 10, 2009 in Effects, Filters, Tutorials

Open up the photo that you want to apply the lightning to and also a new document to create your lightning effect. After creating a black and white gradient, use the render filter > difference clouds to create a lightning bolt. You will then need to inverse the canvas to have the central section white with a black surround and use the level controls to sharpen the black and white areas. At this stage you can copy and paste the image onto the top of your photograph. You will then need to get rid of the black background around the lightning by choosing ’screen’ from the blend mode drop down box on the layers panel with the lightning layer selected. To finish off the effect scale the lightning to the required size and use the eraser tool to blend it in with the clouds.

Select the background layer again with the picture and repeat this for the right eye. Select both the eye layers in the layers panel. Right click and choose merge layers. Open the picture you want to place inside the eye and drag on to of the other image, above the eye layer. Ctrl+T (Apple+T) on the picture layer to reduce the size to the same size as the iris. Duplicate the layer and place over the other iris. Choose overlay for the two picture layers in the layers pallette to let the highlights and shading from the eye shine through. Erase the extra part of the picture that overhangs the iris area and turn your bottom picture layer back on to see the finiahed effect.
