Using the small paintbrush on quite a hard setting, with sharp, quick strokes gives the impression that the drawing has been made with felt tip pens. To get the effect of movement, use long strokes in the direction of where the figure has moved from and use the colour of the item that has moved.

This is a fantastic final piece, where the artist uses a technique similar to that used in paintings by layering colours. First creating the objects and shapes very loosely, slowly becoming more detailed to build up a gradual overall effect.

Most of the images in the video above are from Worth 1000; a Photoshop Contest site. It is well worth a visit if you haven’t come across it before. There are some great challenges to get stuck into but some great competition too. You’ll need to be some sort of Photoshop Guru to enter any of the advanced competitions and be in with a chance!
