If you are past the stage of being able to undo and want to go back to having two seperate layers, right click the image layer and choose release clipping path. This is a really simple way of creating tesellating or tiling patterns in photoshop. After creating the initial square the pattern is saved by chosing the options Edit> Define Pattern. The tile can then be used as a paint bucket fill by choosing Edit> Fill> Use: Pattern, before choosing your saved pattern from the drop down menu. Any defined patterns will be saved in this list for future use unless you choose to delete them (Edit >Preset Manager > Patterns > Select & Delete).

Easy to follow video for putting text on a circular path in Photoshop. Great for creating logos or stamps.
This video also highlights some good key caps. For PC; When using the elipse vector shape tool, hold down shift to keep the shape to a perfect circle, space will allow you to move the shape around without releasing the path.
Ctrl T for Transform. When Transform is selected, holding shift will again keep the object in proportion to the original shape and holding Alt when selected will make the object increase or decrease in size from the centre point. For Mac use the Apple key instead of Ctrl.
