Most of the images in the video above are from Worth 1000; a Photoshop Contest site. It is well worth a visit if you haven’t come across it before. There are some great challenges to get stuck into but some great competition too. You’ll need to be some sort of Photoshop Guru to enter any of the advanced competitions and be in with a chance!
If you want to try and create something like this, I would recommend having the picture you are copying as the bottom layer with the transparency taken down, so that you can use that as a base guide for the initial shapes. Use vector shapes with a layer effect > stroke on it to create the ovals and merge or rasterize the layers to edit the lines. The ovals are distorted by choosing Edit > Transform Path > Warp.
This tutorial shows one of the many uses of the Healing Brush in Photoshop. Not only can it be used for the example above; removing dark circles under the eyes and other things such as blemishes or fine lines. It can also be used for a wide range of photo editing when trying to fix image imperfections such as scratches or dust on a lens.
Very useful bit of kit! I use this when working straight from cds, where the images are too large to copy across to the network and you can’t preview the images properly. Be aware that if the original files are big or there is a huge amount of images in the source folder; it may take a long time for photoshop to complete this process, but it does save time in the long run by enabling you to go straight to the file you want to use. The process is unlimited; if you set the contact sheet to display 20 photos on a page and you have 25 photos, it will automatically keep going, creating a second sheet with the extra 5 photos. Make sure that you get all the initial settings right as once it is set into motion it is difficult to stop the process without force quitting.
Haha, this might an old clip, but I’m posting it for anyone who uses photoshop who’s not seen it before, purely because I think it’s great! I think I might start watching it every morning before I start work, then I can pretend I’m working for MI5 or something!
Very cool. This video proves you can create a fanastic final piece by sticking with it and building up the layers. Interesting to see how the fire ball effect was created with photos of blue sky and white fluffy clouds!
